When the first “bombshells” caught the worlds’ eye, they ushered in an era of booty worship. We can thank the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield for the fact that a curvy backside is now a defining characteristic of femininity.
Not everyone is blessed with the derriere of a Brazilian twenty-something, however. And others see their perfectly adequate curves lose firmness and shape over time. If you’re in either camp, don’t despair. You not only have options, plural, but these buttock-enhancements are non-surgical, minimally invasive and require little downtime. That’s what we call a win-win.
Barrett Plastic Surgery offers Non-surgical Butt Augmentation and Brazilian Butt Lift procedures for anyone looking for a little boost for their backside. Read on to discover which one is right for you.
What is Non-surgical Butt Augmentation?
It sounds too good to be true, but there really is a way to add fullness and shape to your derriere without anesthesia or incisions. This procedure uses an injectable dermal filler called Sculptra, which contains poly-L-lactic acid. As opposed to hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm, Sculptra doesn’t add volume right away. Instead, it stimulates the body’s own collagen production to produce volume over time. So while the improvements don’t develop as quickly as with Juvederm, they last much longer. Most patients enjoy their curvier backside for about three years.
This procedure is perfect for anyone suffering from the slight droop or sagginess that occurs as a natural consequence of age, weight fluctuations, hormones or gravity. In the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon, Sculptra can restore fullness and projection–and has the added benefit of reducing the appearance of cellulite. As your dermis’s natural collagen production increases, the skin gets thicker, which in turn, minimizes dimples.
What You Can Expect
On the day of your procedure, Dr. Barrett will mark the treatment area so as to place the injections where they will produce the most natural result. The injections take just a few minutes to complete, and the lidocaine in the formulation ensures the process is as comfortable as possible.
Afterward, you can go right back to your daily routine. You may be a bit sore, but this shouldn’t last more than a few days. Remember that the treatment takes some time to become noticeable, so in the months following your session, you will see greater and greater improvement. In some cases, a series of appointments might be the best fit to achieve the results you want. Dr. Barrett will sit down with you to clarify your beauty goals and recommend the treatment most aligned with your desired outcome.
Non-surgical Butt Augmentation is not a good option if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, and may not be right for you if you have a significant amount of sagging. In cases like these, you may want to consider a Brazilian Butt Lift.
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a terrific choice if you’re looking for a substantial increase in fullness or want your results to last more than a few years. Also called a buttocks/gluteal augmentation, a BBL defines the outer thighs and repositions the buttocks, so they appear more rounded and shapely.
The procedure requires two steps. The first step involves removing fat via liposuction from an area like the abdomen, hips or thighs. During the second step, this harvested fat is strategically injected into the buttocks to achieve natural, long-lasting fullness. This procedure offers the double benefit of sculpting one area where fat is a problem while adding curves to areas that might be lacking.
Dr. Barrett achieves his signature smooth effect through the SAFE liposuction technique, which allows for more efficient fat removal and better preservation of the cells removed. To achieve the optimal contour, the fat must be placed with artistic precision–a skill Dr. Barrett has honed from his many years of experience.
What You Can Expect
The liposuction step of your BBL will require local, twilight or general anesthesia. Tiny incisions are created to insert a narrow cannula directly into the fatty deposit. You will receive an anesthetic in the treatment site, as well, to increase your comfort level and lower your risk of bleeding.
The S.A.F.E. liposuction technique involves a Separation phase, during which a vibrating cannula loosens and separates the fat cells from the rest of the tissue. Aspiration describes the removal of fat cells using gentle suction. The Fat Equalization phase requires Dr. Barrett to leave a thin layer of fat just underneath the dermis to create a smoother contour and reduce the risk of dimpling on the outer surface.
Once removed, the fat cells are carefully preserved and prepared for injection back into the buttocks. The use of very small cannulas minimizes bruising and allows for a more consistent delivery of the fat. Dr. Barrett will use multiple injection sites to create a natural, symmetrical shape.
Patients are usually a bit sore for the first few days after a BBL. Swelling and bruising can last for up to a month. We encourage patients to rest for two weeks and avoid placing excess pressure on the backside during this time, so the fat cells can “take.” Dr. Barrett may recommend compression garments to encourage healing and healthy blood flow.
In brief, here are the benefits of a Non-surgical Buttocks Lift:
- The procedure is fast; you’re usually in and out in 30 minutes.
- No anesthesia is required.
- No incisions mean no post-operative scarring.
- You can return to your regular activities immediately.
- The outcome may last up to three years–sometimes longer.
Compare that to the benefits you can expect from a Brazilian Butt Lift:
- You can expect a significantly rounder, fuller buttocks.
- You get the added benefit of liposuction in an area with stubborn fat.
- Both steps of the procedure are completed in a single visit.
- There will be no scarring from the butt lift and minimal scarring from the liposuction.
- It doesn’t require synthetic implants.
- The results are evident within weeks and are quite long-lasting.
