Male Tummy Tuck

Male Tummy Tuck

Introduction

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgeries are designed for individuals who desire tight, contoured abdomens. During a full procedure, Dr. Barrett will tighten core muscles while removing excess fat and skin, leaving you with a beautiful, aesthetically flattering midsection. A traditional tuck requires two incisions (a horizontally-oriented incision running between the navel and the pubic hairline. In addition, men can request to have their skin sculpted and etched such that it produces the infamous “six-pack” contour or even V-lines along the waist.

During your pre-operative consultation, Dr. Barrett can discuss the differences between the two procedures as well as weigh their benefits to decide which procedure is right for you. Together, you and Dr. Barrett can plan just exactly what you desire surgically, helping you to make the best decision for your unique situation.

Candidates

This type of surgery is applicable to both men and women. Below is a list of ideal candidates, many of whom we have encountered in the past:

  • Older, slightly obese individuals with loose skin*
  • Individuals who still retain excess fat and/or skin despite attempting diet and exercise
  • Women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy*

We recommend patients attempt surgery after completing weight loss plans and/or after they are finished having children as additional weight gain can affect the quality of abdominoplasty results.

Results and Recovery

Tummy tucks take approximately 2-5 hours to complete and are performed under general anesthesia. The procedure may be done on an inpatient or outpatient basis, depending on the individual and the recommendation of Dr. Barrett. Recovery time is approximately 2 weeks. Vigorous activities should be limited for at least six weeks. During your post-operative care, Dr. Barrett will provide specific instructions for your individual recovery. Following these instructions can help reduce post-surgery complications as well as speed up recovery time.
