Facelift

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, tightens underlying muscles, and repositions facial tissues to create a more lifted, youthful appearance. Facelifts effectively reverse mid-face sagging, tighten loose skin or fat under the chin, and smooth deep creases under the eyes and between the nose and mouth.

About

Facelifts are an excellent procedure for patients experiencing facial sagging who still have some elasticity in the skin. This procedure is highly customizable to address specific concerns like sagging jowls, deep wrinkles, and loose skin around the neck.

This procedure does not rejuvenate the brows, eyelids, nose, and some parts of the mid-face. Patients with concerns in these areas often combine a facelift with eyelid surgery or brow lift for a fully comprehensive transformation. Additionally, fat grafting, dermal fillers, facial implants, and skin resurfacing treatments can enhance the effects of a facelift. During your initial consultation, your surgeon will provide a comprehensive exam and discuss your goals to understand if this procedure is correct for you.

PROCEDURE DETAILS
Face Lift

Traditional Facelift: Also called a full facelift, this includes rejuvenation of the face, jowls, and neck, including lifting and repositioning the muscles and trimming extra skin. During this procedure, an incision is made at the temples, down to the front of the ear, around the earlobe, and behind the ear to the lower scalp at the hairline.

Mid-Facelift: Also called a limited-incision facelift, this technique targets the middle of the face, including the cheeks and under the eyes, to restore volume and definition to the cheeks. It can be combined with other procedures, including a traditional facelift. During this procedure, tiny incisions are made at the temples and around the ears, and sometimes in the lower eyelids and/or under the upper lip.

Breast Reconstruction with Fat Grafting: Fat grafting is often used in combination with other reconstruction methods to provide a more natural finish to your breasts. It is similar to a tissue transfer in that it uses unwanted excess fat from another body region to restore volume to the chest. While an autologous transfer involves surgically attaching a substantial amount of fat to recreate the roundness and fullness of the breast, fat grafting involves injecting smaller amounts of tissue into more targeted, localized areas. Alternatively, you may combine fat grafting with breast implants to achieve shape and volume while refining the area with a natural touch and finish.

After surgery

Swelling, numbness, bruising, and a feeling of tightness or tension in the face and neck are common post-surgery and may last for 2-4 weeks. Some patients experience some facial asymmetry and muscle stiffness during the healing process, which gradually fades within a few weeks or months. Your surgeon will provide detailed postoperative instructions and closely monitor your healing and recovery in the weeks and months following surgery.

The results of a facelift can last for several years but cannot prevent the natural aging process. Over time, additional procedures may be needed to maintain results.
