Mini Face Lift

Mini Face Lift

Introduction

Facelifts are the optimal solution to counteract aging and its unattractive side effects. By reconstructing your facial features through muscle tightening, fat removal, and trimming of excess skin, Dr. Barrett can rejuvenate your appearance and help you rediscover your fresh, youthful self. While facial surgeries are not meant to stop the aging process, patients often come out looking 10-15 years younger!

At Barrett Plastic Surgery, we offer two types of facelifts: the traditional option and the limited-incision (mid-facelift) option.

  • Most individuals are familiar with the “full” traditional facelift because it involves rejuvenating the face, jowls (lower cheek region), and neck. This is achieved by repositioning the muscles and then trimming and redraping the surrounding skin. For this type of facelift, Dr. Barrett will create a small incision starting at the temples and run it down the front ear region, around the earlobe, behind the ear, until it reaches hairline of your lower scalp.
  • For patients who do not want extensive surgery, we offer the second option: the limited-incision surgery or the “mini face lift”. In this case, we target deep creases around the eyes and mouth, such as the nasolabial folds (the “laugh lines” that appear at the sides of your nose when you smile). The incisions for this surgery are less extensive, appearing only at the temples and around the ear; depending on patient requests, incisions might also be made in the lower eyelids and the upper lip.

Candidates

Ideal face lift candidates are men and women in general good health who are dissatisfied with their facial features, due to asymmetrical structure and poor skin elasticity. Oftentimes, many patients suffer from the following aging issues: midface sagging; deep creases underneath the eyes (“eyebags”) and between the nose and mouth; and loose patches of skin around the chin and jaw. Above all, ideal patients should be individuals who are excited to see dramatic improvement in their appearances, but who also have realistic expectations.

While a mini facelift cannot rejuvenate the brows, eyelids, nose, and some areas of the midface region, Dr. Barrett does offer surgery combination options. For example, patients often pair a facelift with a brow lift or an eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), so they can achieve their desired results all at once. Additionally, we do offer minor solutions outside surgery, such as fat grafting, injectable soft-tissue fillers, facial implants, and skin resurfacing. Results and Recovery

For the two to four weeks following surgery, it is common to feel some swelling, numbness, bruising, tightness, and/or tension in the face and neck region. While these side effects will often create a somewhat uneven or distorted appearance, they will disappear within a few months. Even though you might not notice the changes that have been made to your face, most patients actually feel comfortable and confident with their new look by day ten post-surgery, and many of them even return to work after 2-3 weeks. Dr. Barrett will provide more specific instructions on how to best care for yourself during the recovery period customized on your condition and surgery.
