If you’re considering a breast augmentation, you can pour over the millions of google results, learning everything you can, but all the research in the world can’t tell you what about breast augmentation surgery is really like. And while each experience is different, one of our patients Leenda, a 31 year old social media influencer, has documented her personal breast augmentation journey to give you a better idea of what your own might be like.
What is breast augmentation?
Before we start, let’s talk a bit about breast augmentation basics. A traditional breast augmentation, that is, a breast augmentation with implants, adds volume to the breasts by surgically placing a silicone or saline implant into the breast pocket. This is different from a fat transfer breast augmentation, which is a two-part process that takes excess, unwanted fat from one part of the body through liposuction and injects it into the breast to enhance their size and shape.
You’re also probably wondering how long it takes to recover from breast augmentation. While every patient is different, you should expect at least three days of solid downtime and relative downtime for at least another two weeks. You can also expect pain, swelling and sensitivity for a few weeks, but it should subside enough within the first few days to allow you to return to most of your activities without significant discomfort. There are things you can do to ensure you have the best possible outcome and recovery: Dr. Barrett has curated a breast augmentation recovery kit to set his breast augmentation patients up for surgical success with the least amount of down time and discomfort possible.
Speaking of outcomes, when can you expect to see results? When comparing your breast augmentation before and after results, it’s best to wait at least six weeks for your implants drop and fluff, though it can take up to a year for all the swelling to completely go away and for your full results to appear. Dr. Barrett has gathered an assortment of before and after images you may want to browse to get a fuller scope of his breast augmentation surgery.
Leenda came to Dr. Barrett after considering breast augmentation surgery for nearly 18 years, and chose him particularly after having been impressed with the informative and diverse nature of his social media presence. On the morning of her surgery, and after discussing her goals with Dr. Barrett a final time, she was filled with a mix of nerves and excitement as she went into the operating room. Six weeks later, it turns out those nerves were for naught; she was thrilled with her results, and most surprised but how painless her whole experience was. Her biggest piece of advice to anyone considering plastic surgery? Do lots and lots of research and make sure you’re doing it 100% for yourself.
